N.C. looks to garner local support for transit plans

Raleigh City Council members discussed local transportation needs, and the importance of getting the public on board with local transit plans. In particular, they reviewed the proposed $75 million Union Station downtown, which would provide a hub for Amtrak passenger trains.

INIT achieves 'Zero Waste to Landfill' certification

Recognized for effective use of the “single stream” recycling process, which allows them to throw plastic, paper and glass recyclables in one recycling container. Other initiatives included the installation of light and motion detectors and energy-efficient hand dryers, as well as stationing recycling bins at each work station.

NJ Transit makes some weekend trains ‘bike-friendly’

As part of the expanded Bike Aboard program, NJ Transit will offer 418 designated bike trains on weekends on the Raritan Valley, Main/Bergen County, Pascack Valley, Gladstone, Montclair-Boonton and Atlantic City Rail lines. Collapsible bicycles are permitted on all trains at all times.

SEPTA achieves APTA's 'Gold' sustainability level

In addition to having the second largest hybrid-electric bus fleet in the U.S., SEPTA achieved a 19.7% reduction in water usage per passenger miles traveled (PMT); a 10.0% reduction in fuel use per PMT; a 4.0% reduction in electricity use per PMT; and 3.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions per PMT.
