Cobb County commissioners approved the elimination of three Cobb Community Transit bus routes and associated paratransit lines to help fill a $27 million budget gap. The cuts will likely affect 463 paratransit riders.
The LINK service, which includes demand-response, modified fixed route and subscription service, provides its riders — 48 percent of whom are disabled — a crucial link to various activities, including medical visits, trips to the grocery store, or even jobs.
More than 470,000 people ride MetroLink annually, connecting them to many points throughout the twin cities region.

In addition to cutting 54 non-union positions, including 26 manager-level posts, the agency is reducing expenses which, when combined with personnel moves, will save $15 million annually.
The Macatawa Area Express system will revamp half of its routes to make them more efficient and convenient, which will also help reduce costs. The transit system aims to increase service frequencies on standard bus routes to help reduce demand-response usage.
