Pacific Western Transportation's travel service program for patients needing to travel for out-of-town medical appointments features a Prevost luxury model coach equipped to accommodate wheelchair and scooter passengers.
Cobb County commissioners approved the elimination of three Cobb Community Transit bus routes and associated paratransit lines to help fill a $27 million budget gap. The cuts will likely affect 463 paratransit riders.
The LINK service, which includes demand-response, modified fixed route and subscription service, provides its riders — 48 percent of whom are disabled — a crucial link to various activities, including medical visits, trips to the grocery store, or even jobs.
More than 470,000 people ride MetroLink annually, connecting them to many points throughout the twin cities region.
The company now operates a total of 189 paratransit vehicles in the state of Pennsylvania. All are equipped with DriveCam fleet monitoring capabilities to ensure the highest level of safety and service.
Due to low program participation, the agencies have eliminated pre-registration and voucher requirements and will be seeking additional vending locations for the passes, to find out if there is additional unmet demand.

The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will use the “State of Good Repair” grant to replace 38 of its paratransit vehicles. The agency’s paratransit program has been the fastest growing part of the system, with ridership increases in each of the past 15 years.
Despite high gas prices and a slow economy Americans who ride public transportation save, on average, $9,968 annually and $831 per month, based on the July 14, 2011 average national gas price of $3.66 per gallon.
Customers rated their overall satisfaction with the service as “acceptable” or “satisfactory,” with a score of 5.2. Approximately 67 percent said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative, and 63 percent choose to use NJ Transit, even though they have a personal vehicle available.
"It will severely curtail the purchase of new buses and trains, reduce critical maintenance and safety programs, and could cut operating funds for transit systems in small communities and rural areas," said APTA President William Millar.

In addition to cutting 54 non-union positions, including 26 manager-level posts, the agency is reducing expenses which, when combined with personnel moves, will save $15 million annually.
The Macatawa Area Express system will revamp half of its routes to make them more efficient and convenient, which will also help reduce costs. The transit system aims to increase service frequencies on standard bus routes to help reduce demand-response usage.
