A three-train pile-up in Ghotki, Pakistan, has killed 133 passengers, according to local police.

The deadly crash took place early Wednesday when a crowded passenger train rammed into another at a station, and a third train then ploughed into the wreckage.

Approximately 2,000 people, many of them asleep, were on the trains at the time.

Officials said that nearly 170 people were injured, but most of them sustained minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital after treatment.

Authorities have blamed the crash on human error.
