Miami-Dade Transit has awarded the design of a $250 million rail extension to URS Corp.

The 2.6-mile extension will connect the city’s rail network with the soon-to-be-completed Miami Intermodal Center at Miami International airport.

The project will include elevated guideways, a new station and a pedestrian structure that links to the station.

After the completion of URS’ design work, construction is expected to begin on the line in 2007, with a targeted completion date of 2011.
