The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that it will receive $208 million in state funding for the city’s Exposition light rail project.

The funding will be allocated by the California Transportation Commission (CTC) as part of its Traffic Congestion Relief Program.

MTA officials had asked the CTC during a public hearing to fund the 8.5-mile Exposition project, asserting that investment from state sources were essential to the line’s prospects.

Construction on the line is expected to start later this year. The total project cost is estimated at $640 million.
