WASHINGTON, D.C. — Citing funding and technical issues, the American Public Transportation Authority (APTA) is asking Congress for a three-year extension on the federal mandate for major passenger railroads to implement positive train control (PTC) by 2015, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Both Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), who authored the mandate, and Metrolink are critical of APTA's request. The mandate was written following the Metrolink crash three years ago in Chatsworth. For the full story, click here.
