Calif. high-speed authority continues progress

Five Design-Build teams qualified for a short list and will compete for contracts to build the backbone of the high-speed rail system in the Central Valley. MOU outlines a shared commitment to development of high-speed rail in Southern California while providing funding for local early investment projects that will improve rail service immediately.

U.S. mayors to Congress: Pass transportation bill

A letter signed by 188 U.S. mayors urged the House and Senate to enact bicameral, bipartisan surface transportation reauthorization legislation. In addition, the mayors also reiterated their strong opposition to a pending House bill that proposes to shift gas tax revenues away from public transportation.

FRA releases $17M for 12 rail projects

The rail line relocation competitive grant program funds projects that reduce the adverse effects of rail infrastructure on safety, motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic, community quality of life or economic development. Projects getting the funding include the Massachusetts DOT Patriot Corridor Double-Stack Clearance Initiative and the Indianapolis Downtown Rail Relocation.

NJ Transit employees arrested for fare fraud

Two workers allegedly recruited passengers to ride the train, but didn’t have them purchase a ticket. Instead the riders paid them a discounted rate. Prosecutors say that the employees then pocketed the cash, which added up to thousands of dollars in lost fares.
