Amtrak releases soccer-themed TV ad

By running the soccer-themed, family focused commercial during the pre-World Cup media blitz and on iconic Hispanic programs such as Sábado Gigante, Amtrak’s goal is to connect with the Hispanic audience and pique their interest in train travel.

APTA urges Congress to increase security funding

During his testimony, APTA President William Millar announced the results of a recent survey of public transit systems that identifies $6.4 billion in security needs and urged Congress to provide at least $1.1 billion in funding for fiscal year 2011 — the level authorized under the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007.

Metro-St. Louis begins restoring services

Voters in nearly all parts of the County voted to approve Proposition A, which set a sales tax of one-half of 1 percent to fund public transit for the region. Prop A's passage in the County also triggered a one-quarter of 1 percent sales tax in the City of St. Louis that voters there approved in 1997.

Transit advocates rally in 11 cities

From April 20-28, hundreds of members of the Transportation Equity Network and their allies in eleven cities will hold a series of memorial services, rallies, and other actions to resurrect mass transit in their communities.

CTA begins testing of new railcars

The CTA is using capital funding from the Federal Transit Administration and Illinois Department of Transportation in addition to revenue bonds to purchase the rail cars. The total cost for the 406 rail cars is $603.6 million.

FTA awards TriMet $2.4M for streetcar research

At present there is no domestic manufacturer of streetcar propulsion systems. The propulsion system represents about 20 percent of the total cost of a vehicle. The FTA will fund 80 percent of the $3-million project, with a local match of $600,000.

NJ Transit approves adjusted fare, service plan

Fare plans will take effect May 1, 2010. Under the new plan there will be a modest 10-percent increase for local bus and light rail customers. Current Access Link services for people with disabilities who are unable to use regular bus service, and selected bus routes in eight counties will be maintained.
