NTSB issues safety recommendation to D.C. Metro

Calls for agency to evaluate track occupancy data on a real-time basis in order to detect losses in track occupancy and automatically generate alerts to prompt such actions as immediately stopping train movements or implementing appropriate speed restrictions to prevent collisions.

NTSB releases Disney monorail accident info

At about 2 a.m. on July 5th, a Walt Disney World monorail train, designated the Pink train, backed into another monorail train, designated the Purple train, near the Ticket and Transportation Center monorail station. The operator of the Purple train was fatally injured; the six passengers on that train were treated at the scene.

Miami launches online rider alert system

Customers also can set up the new rider alert system to notify them on the operational status of Metrorail or Metromover station elevators and escalators. System also lets paratransit customers sign up to receive STS updates.
