PORTLAND, Ore. — Authorities arrested a man in connection with the discovery of a suspicious backpack that shut down the Portland light rail transit station that was the site of last month’s deadly stabbings, The Register-Guard reports.

Portland police said the backpack contained no explosives, however, items were protruding from the backpack to make it look dangerous.

Police arrested a 59-year-old man in connection of the case and charged him with false reporting, possession of a hoax device, and other charges. Investigators believe the man left the backpack and then called 911 to report it as suspicious. For the full story, click here.
