Va.'s DASH set to honor 5 millionth rider

As part of celebrating this milestone, DASH will be on the lookout for the five millionth rider who will be boarding one of the trolleys on Wednesday, Sept. 9, sometime between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Modernizing the Blue Line, the most heavily used transit service in the region, with an average daily ridership of more than 50,000. The overhaul also includes raising 35 station platforms to accommodate low-floor vehicles, replacing outdated rail and overhead wires, and improving street crossings, switching, and signaling.

The agency is trying to broaden its strategic direction amid budget issues. It is conducting a trial run of the trolley through September, and is getting funding support for the project from local business groups and the City of Gig Harbor.
