A UConn spokesperson defended the use of student drivers, saying they undergo at least 30 hours of training and must get a commercial driver’s license.
Bryan Smith formerly worked at the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority in Kent, Ohio. The agency is the public transportation provider for Portage County and Kent State University.
Vincent Orlando Davis, who had worked as a driver for Duke University Transit for about the past two years, was killed Dec. 22 in a crash near Duke’s campus, when an 18-year-old man hit a Duke passenger van that Davis was driving.
The students will present their idea for the future of Sydney, Australia to a panel of judges in hopes of taking home a $3,000 first-place prize and the opportunity to intern at Walt Disney Imagineering – the creative design team behind those world-famous theme parks and attractions.
The program is funded by the Sonoma County general fund and will assist the Supervisors and Sonoma County Transit in determining the affect a free fare program has on ridership, traffic reduction near college campuses and community response to the program.
