The California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) announced that $190 million in transportation funding from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond, has been allocated for 16 projects by the California Transportation Commission (CTC).
The allocations are contingent upon passage of the 2008-09 California budget, which is currently at a standstill. Depending on how the budget handles transportation funds, some of the allocations could be withdrawn.
The CTC also approved a $250 million program of highway-railroad grade separation projects funded by Proposition 1B’s Highway-Railroad Crossing Safety Account (HRCSA). Funding allocations for the HRCSA will be made at future CTC meetings.
Additionally, the CTC allocated $120 million for 32 other transportation projects; however, should the 2008-09 California budget lack sufficient revenue to fund transportation, the allocations will be rescinded.
