The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) board approved a resolution that all new and substantially rehabilitated Metro facilities will be designed and built with the goal of receiving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.
LEED is a rating system designed by the U.S. Green Building Council and is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED certified buildings cost less to operate and maintain, are energy and water efficient, and healthier and safer for occupants.
