A Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter train derailed Thursday, injuring four people and tying up rail traffic.

The train was carrying 400 passengers toward Washington, D.C., when the engine and the last three cars went off the tracks near Quantico, Va., during the morning rush, according to a statement on VRE’s Website.

The cause of the derailment was not immediately known, but several rail routes in the area, including some operated by Amtrak, were disrupted or canceled.
