The SFO AirTrain, a peoplemover at the San Francisco International Airport, opened for service yesterday.
The peoplemover serves nine stations along a six-mile elevated guideway. It connects all of the airport's terminals, parking garages and the soon-to-be-opened Bay Area Rapid Transit Station with the Rental Car Center. The service now uses 38 two-car trains, but that will be increased to three-car trains.
Bombardier Transportation was responsible for the design, supply, systems engineering, installation and testing of the system. The peoplemover uses Bombardier's CX-100(1) vehicles. The company will operate and maintain the peoplemover for three years, with three additional one-year options.
