Bombardier Inc. announced on Sunday it reversed a decision to close its rail transportation equipment plant in Ammendorf, Germany.
News of the reversal came days after workers protested against the planned closure and after Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder intervened.
The plant, with a workforce of 850 people, is still expecting layoffs this year.
Plans to close the plant were part of a rationalization of assets following Bombardier's $690 million acquisition of Adtranz from DaimlerChrysler AG last year.
