The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) announced upcoming, temporary changes to CityLYNX Gold Line frequency.

Effective Saturday, August 19, CATS will adjust CityLYNX Gold Line frequency from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

CATS is making this temporary change so that it can better ensure the reliability and consistency of the CityLYNX Gold Line service.

CATS' Current Challenges

CATS is experiencing ongoing challenges with maintaining the current 20-minute schedule, and as a result, riders have faced uncertainty related to the frequency of the CityLYNX Gold Line. These disruptions are due to several factors including, staffing constraints and summer events.

CATS' rail operator training spans a minimum of 16 weeks. Only those who meet all state and federal standards are authorized to operate a railcar independently.

CATS anticipates improvements in rail service in the coming months as it is able to recruit and train additional rail operators. As CATS' current batch of trainees completes their training, the agency anticipates an increase in rail operators, consequently allowing CATS to return to the 20-minute frequency on the CityLYNX Gold Line.
