The proposal, which will be presented at a series of public hearings in May, is focused on maintaining MARTA's long-term financial sustainability, preserving transit service and state-of-good-repair, enhancing some bus routes and implementing new security initiatives.
Board agreed on a contract with the current GM of Iowa's Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, Bradford Miller. Miller will officially take the reins July 5, 2011.
The agency will use the funds to renovate the historic Wayne Junction Intermodal Facility. Will include upgrades to power, signaling and tracks, ADA accommodations, and new elevators.
The report focused on five communities — Boulder/Denver, Colo.; Chicago; Ithaca, N.Y.; Portland, Ore.; and Santa Clara County, Calif. The results from seven focus groups within those communities also were included.
The new law, effective August 1, will impose a fine of $100 on people caught texting while driving.
