The proposal, issued by the NHTSA, would expand the required field of view for all passenger cars, pickup trucks, minivans, buses and low-speed vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 10,000 pounds, so that drivers can see directly behind the vehicle when the vehicle's transmission is in reverse.
In reaction to the corruption scandal earlier this year involving the late Metra boss, Phil Pagano, two state legislators submitted measures that would replace all the board members of the Regional Transportation Authority, the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace.
Mark Aesch, head of the RGRTA, opted not to extend his contract and will leave the transit authority at the end of 2011. He plans to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
The Administration raised concerns about how the transit agency is spending and accounting for funds drawn from a pool of approximately $182 million in grant money. Miami-Dade Transit Director Harpal Kapoor says the agency is addressing financial control issues and taking corrective action.
The articulated bus features include a modular ceiling panel — which diffuses indirect lighting — work tables in the rear, sconces, space saving back rests, redesigned driver partition, and floor-to-ceiling vertical stanchions.
