The House on Thursday passed the Transportation Equity Act, a Legacy for Users (TEA-LU), which authorizes a total of $283.9 billion over a six-year period for transit and highway programs. The bill, which passed by a 417-9 vote, authorizes $52.3 billion for the federal transit program through fiscal year 2009. The Senate still is putting together its counterpart bill. Committee leaders said they would like to mark up legislation as early as next week.
