GPS paying off in Edmonton during snow storms, emergencies

EDMONTON, Canada — As of mid-December, nearly two-thirds of Edmonton’s 925 buses are equipped with live GPS technology, an $18-million investment called Smart Bus, which is starting to pay dividends during the area’s snow storms as well as emergencies, the Edmonton Journal reported.

Staff in the main control room can now see exactly how many passengers have boarded a specific bus, can take over on-board cameras in an emergency and can redirect empty buses to fill service gaps when buses are running behind. For the full story, click here.
