ARRA to fund energy reduction, tribal transit

Greenhouse gas and energy reduction grant will be awarded on the basis of how much the proposed capital investment is expected to reduce either energy consumption or greenhouse gases. Funds will provide grants to Indian tribes for capital expenditures including transit equipment and facilities.

MCI issues coach safety DVD

Demonstrates how passengers should navigate inside the coach while it’s in motion and how to exit appropriately, aiding those who may need assistance. It also suggests calling 911 for emergency help, instructs passengers on the importance of staying seated and notes the driver's authority along with the importance of not speaking to the driver.

NTSB aims to eliminate fatigue in transportation

Long concerned about the effect of human fatigue in transportation and the consequences of fatigue on those who perform critical functions in all modes of transportation, the NTSB has issued more than 100 fatigue related recommendations in all modes of transportation.

APTA: Transit users save $8,500 yearly

In addition, commuters who ride public transit to work are now eligible to receive an increase in the monthly transit benefit offered by their employer. The maximum transit benefit is now equal to the parking benefit and increases from $120 to $230 per month.

MIT to study environment, transportation challenge

Transportation@MIT will start as a two-year pilot program with initial support from all three participating schools. Plans are under way for the development of two labs, one in Cambridge and one outside the U.S., where researchers can apply and test new processes, technologies and policies.
