NJ Transit upgrades transit station for $7.9M

The new Plauderville Station is fully accessible to customers with disabilities, provides more convenient access to the station from the parking area and features platforms constructed with Armor Deck, a material with a structural polymer composite system used in place of concrete that resists corrosion and is maintenance-free.

FRA issues rail safety advisory

Goal is to raise awareness and ensure universal compliance with safety rules that protect employees who must physically place themselves between rolling equipment in the normal course of their work. Recommendations include ensuring the use of sound communication protocols to notify employees when going between two pieces of rolling equipment.

Michigan awarded $197M for track, signal upgrades

Funds will support track and signal improvements between Detroit and Kalamazoo, Mich., which will allow for speeds of up to 110 mph on 77 percent of Amtrak’s Wolverine and Blue Water services between Detroit and Chicago, resulting in a 30-minute reduction in travel time between those destinations.

Calif. to re-introduce alternate high-speed rail route

In response to stakeholder, agency and public feedback on the high-speed train alignment that bypasses Hanford to the east, the authority will re-introduce an alternative route, along with an alternative station location to serve the Kings/Tulare region along that portion of the Fresno to Bakersfield section.
