Campus officials say the option cuts the $115 fee for a commuter parking sticker in half while alleviating campus parking issues.
The transit agency agreed to pay $1.5 million to take the steps included in the agreement, including provide an alternative access road to ease potential problems.

A fleet of 12 six-car Bombardier Innovia Monorail 100 trains originally served three airport terminals, three stations at remote parking lots and a rental car center via a dedicated, dual-lane elevated guideway. Since then, the system has been extended to the North East Corridor rail line, with the fleet expanding to 18 six-car trains.
The new contract was ratified with a vote of 212 to 69.
The effort is expected to include construction engineering, inspection, office technician work and general project management services.
A project design report notes "the use of concrete ties resulted in estimated track costs from 10% to 15% lower than the use of timber ties using conventional track construction methods. If a mechanized track laying system were to be employed, costs could be as much as 40% lower."
The double-deck bus that slammed into a highway overpass support, killing one passenger and injuring dozens of others, was manufactured last year and passed a company safety inspection days ago.
The proposed package, which would extend the transit commuter benefit to $240 per month and continue the alternative fuel tax credit, as well as a vehicle refueling property tax credit, would go into effect, retroactively, Jan. 1, 2012.
The bus, carrying 64 passengers, apparently blew a tire and skidded into the center pillar around 1:20 p.m. near Litchfield, about 60 miles north of St. Louis. As many as half the people on the bus were injured.

The agency’s free shuttles to corporate parks, shopping centers and downtown at many of its stations caused the uptick. In 2010, 444,298 people boarded the shuttles. This year, 935,919 used the buses.
The contract, which went into effect on July 1, 2012, is for one year with four one-year options.
The agency’s most recent bicycle parking census shows that bike parking usage in 2012 is up 3% from last year and the availability of bicycle parking near Metrorail stations has increased to more than 4,000 spaces.
