CUTA launches online transit campaign

"Take Action! Write to the Minister" rallies members and the public to voice their support and call on Canada’s federal government to increase funding for public transit. Includes an action center designed to send a letter to Minister Lebel with recommendations to make public transit an integral part of the next long term infrastructure plan, and a social media campaign.

CATS approved to begin final rail design

This allows the project to be developed from the 65% to the 100% design level and complete preparation of final construction plans, right-of-way acquisition, construction cost estimates, bid documents and utility relocation.

Rutgers U. transit hub on hold

School officials said the project could not be built without a tax credit from the state. The Urban Transit Hub tax program was designed to spur development near urban train stations and has been on hold because it was nearing its funding cap.

N.Y. bus to recruit students to promote services

The Nassau County-owned bus system, Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE), is partnering with the local community college to designate "student ambassadors" who will help provide transportation information to students, including answering questions about bus routes and schedules.

Officer stabbed, man shot at LIRR station

The ensuing confrontation was captured on video and described by witnesses. The man stabbed officer John Barnett with no warning. Barnett stepped back, drew his weapon and warned Owens repeatedly to drop his knife. Owens continued approaching Barnett with the knife in his hand.
