The new taxis are Dodge Caravan mini-vans that have been specially modified by Viewpoint Mobility to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters in the rear compartment. The taxis cost $36,744.00 each and were funded in part by over $380,000 in New Freedom grants.
Under the terms of the new five-year agreement, the company will partner with Spokane Transit Authority to cover overflow paratransit service and supplement the agency’s base service.
The company also announced it entered into an Amended and Restated Consulting and Brokerage Agreement with MV Sales & Leasing Inc. (MVSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of MV Transportation Inc., pursuant to which MVSL will act as a non-exclusive consultant and broker of the MV-1.
The bill, which would extend SAFETEA-LU and the collection of motor fuels taxes that are deposited in the Highway Trust Fund through June 30, 2012, is expected to be signed by President Barack Obama.
The measure must pass the Senate before March 31 to avoid the lapse of federal highway programs. Both chambers are scheduled to wrap up legislative business this week before taking a spring recess.
