U.S. DOT updates disadvantaged business program

New rulemaking will require greater accountability from state and local transportation agencies for including disadvantaged businesses in their spending plans. Also adds provisions to ensure that prime contractors fulfill commitments to use DBE subcontractors, and requires all states to accept DBE certifications obtained in other states, unless the state finds good cause not to accept it.

Madison adds new paratransit provider

The city entered new three-year contracts with two local providers — Badger Bus and Transit Solutions — but bypassed a bid from Badger Cab in favor of one from Abby Vans, which is 120 miles away from Central Wisconsin.

MV names new president of Western ops

John Siragusa has been at MV Transportation for 18 years, most recently serving as VP of Operations for the Company’s Western region. In his new role, he will oversee MV’s team of regionally based vice presidents and support personnel.

Uses in-vehicle recorders to capture detailed video and vehicle data during sudden stops, swerves, collisions and other events. Captured data is sent to professional safety reviewers who evaluate the events. Fleet managers then use these results to improve fleet performance and overall driving safety.

Ex-NJ Transit chief to helm D.C. Metro

Richard Sarles, the former executive director of New Jersey Transit, who was brought in to lead the Metro last March on an interim basis, will become the transit system's permanent general manager and take on the title of CEO.

California Gov. may not cut transit funds

While Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed budget, released last week, does not include cuts to transit, a spokesman for a San Francisco transportation and planning agency cautioned that a fuel tax swap approved last year may take $2.5 billion from transit.
