Committee has broad jurisdiction over the Nation's highways, railways, airports, seaports, bus lines and pipelines, as well as the Economic Development Administration, Appalachian Regional Commission, Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, FEMA and other crucial economic development programs.
In a statement, APTA's president calls on Obama to "address the urgent need for infrastructure investment, including public transportation."
Upgrades include an improved trip planner, with a mobile trip planning application; simplified navigation; greater emphasis on rider information; a social media hub and a carpool matching database.
Workers called in to operate the system’s buses, subways, railroads and crossings added up to about $14 million of that amount, the MTA said, or about 3 percent of its annual overtime budget.
The projects awarded are part of the State Transportation Improvement Program and voter-approved Proposition 1B, a $20 billion bond program to fund transportation projects throughout the state.
