N.Y. MTA raises fares

The base fare for subways and buses went up by 25 cents to $2.75. The price of a 30-day MetroCard jumped by $4.50 to $116.50. The cost of riding the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Railroad both went up about 4%.

British agency first to install cyclist safety solution

Fitted to the side of a bus, a CycleEye unit uses radar and camera sensors to identify cyclists in potentially dangerous situations in close proximity to the bus and gives an audible alert to the driver’s cab. Bristol City Council will be funding a number of units on buses within the city, where cycling has more than doubled over the last 10 years.

Reporting directly to NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco, Gaul will head a team responsible for redefining customer service and communication, accelerating the development of technology within the system and developing innovative ways of expanding capacity.
