Staten Island Railway ridership continues its upward trend averaging more than 7,000 weekday riders six of the last eight days with a pandemic-era record 7,490 on Thursday, Oct. 21.
The move is the latest in a series of measures Metro-North has taken to ensure customer and employee safety during the pandemic.
Face coverings protecting New Yorkers’ nose and mouth, including cloth bandanas, scarves, masks, or other alternatives, were mandatory effective April 17 to ride public transportation.
Personal protective equipment, including masks, continues to be mandatory for certain positions and duties across the agency and will continue to be provided in these instances.
The MTA continues to work around the clock with the CDC, DOH and other agencies, and has already taken a number of steps to provide information about the virus to employees and customers.
The app, CTrail eTix, is a more convenient way to pay rail fare without needing to carry and display a paper ticket.
