MARTA removed the four streetcar vehicles from service on Nov. 29, after engineers discovered wheel degradation that could pose a safety risk.
The reasoning behind the decision was detailed by MARTA’s Deputy Chief Mechanical Officer Daniel Hecht during a board meeting.
The budget utilizes new sources of funding received within the last year from the federal government as well as local funds to help restore much of the bus and rail service cut during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on demand.
