Report: Bus market to grow 5% annually

Much of the gains will be attributable to Type C school buses, demand for which will skyrocket from 26,000 units in 2011 to 70,000 units in 2016. Growth in demand for motorcoaches, transit buses and all other buses will, in the aggregate, be much more moderate, averaging 3.7% per year through 2016, a pace consistent with longer term trends.

CHK wins Calif. contract

Upon completion of a system map and transit brochure, the company will begin the next phase of the customer information design project by developing stop signage for the city’s transit center as well as all 145 of its bus stops.

Boston universities unveil taxi fare card

A new partnership between CBORD, a provider of campus card and integrated security solutions to colleges and universities, and Creative Mobile Technologies, a supplier of in-taxi media and payment technologies, allows Emerson College and Suffolk University students to pay for taxi rides using campus card funds.

Late-night and off-campus services appear to be the most popular among the systems surveyed. An increase in bus routes ran a close second. One university just unveiled a trolley service and another is planning a parking app.
