Feds: CATS can supply DNC buses

FTA granted the transit system a waiver so it could provide “limited charter service” during the Democratic National Convention. Decision comes after the ABA asked regulators not to grant the waiver to CATS to use its buses to transport people with disabilities and other accessibility issues.

Ore. light rail supporters rally

Fighting an anti-rail initiative on the ballot for a special election to be held September 18. The measure, if approved, would require countywide voter approval before officials can use funds to finance, design, construct or operate any rail lines in the county.

Denver RTD approves FasTracks spending plan

Will implement the FasTracks program with existing revenues as part of the Denver Regional Council of Government’s Regional Transportation Plan. Also looking to optimize ways to complete more of FasTracks sooner by re-evaluating elements of the program and all available resources.

Calif.’s Sacramento RT expands light rail, bus service

Will extend night service on light rail and nine major bus routes and increase frequency on highly-utilized bus routes. Along with the Green Line light rail extension, which opened in June, these improvements represent the first time RT added service since budget cuts forced major service reductions in June 2010.

Pierce Transit may cut bus service in biggest county

Looking into cutting in half or eliminating bus service in the most populous county it serves due to falling sales tax projections and previous service reductions causing a drop in ridership. However, if approved in November, a measure to increase the sales tax may help the struggling agency.
