NEW YORK — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority banned all political advertising on its subways and buses after a judge ruled that a pro-Israel group was allowed to display an advertisement containing an inflammatory phrase on city buses, CBS New York reported.
The resolution passed at the MTA’s board meeting Wednesday, prompted indignation from members of the board and the public who accused the agency of blocking New Yorkers’ first amendment rights, according to the report.
The new policy means any ad that demeans or disparages a person or group will be prohibited. The agency says such advertising only accounts for less than $1 million of its annual advertising revenue of $138 million. For the full story, click here.
