KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the state not able to pay to install positive train control (PTC), Amtrak sent a letter to the Kansas City Terminal Railroad to notify it of its intention to terminate local Amtrak service, reported KMBC.

Michelle Teel of the Missouri Department of Transportation testified in Washington last week, saying that Missouri pays for Amtrak service and the state doesn't have the $20 million it needs for PTC, adding that the department struggles to even get the $9 million it needs to operate Amtrak.
