Santa Rosa Paratransit was honored at the California Association of Coordinated Transportation 2010 Spring Conference and Expo for improving all aspects of the paratransit service provided to the residents of Santa Rosa.
The Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority recently conducted a survey of its paratransit customers who reported that overall, services had improved over the last two years. In addition, the City of Alameda has launched a new paratransit shuttle.
The program utilizes senior citizen volunteers who go through training to learn how to read maps and schedules, where Torrance Transit's lines go, the do's and don'ts of public transportation and the sensitivities of seniors and disabled riders.
The Shuttle Van now joins the Cargo Van, Passenger Van and Chassis Cab.

As economic pressures continue to affect transit agencies, some are raising fares and initiating service cuts to keep budgets in line. In many regions, paratransit passengers face the greatest impact from service cuts as most rely on those services as a low-cost mode of transportation.

Fifty-nine percent of public transit systems reported that they have already cut service or raised fares.
