NEW YORK CITY — The number of double-decker sightseeing buses in New York City has more than tripled, to 194 from 57, according to the state’s Transportation Department, while the number of operators has increased in the same period to 14, from 3, according to The New York Times.
The growth of this bus sector has rankled community groups, elected officials, and residents in tourist-rich neighborhoods, who have been critical of their size, intrusiveness, as well as the sidewalk solicitations for bus tours, the report said.
