SEPTA unveils ‘energy action plan’

Builds on existing energy-saving initiatives already implemented through the agency's Sustainability Program. Measures designed to save the agency more than $2 million a year include switching to daytime cleaning; installing a wayside energy storage device and generating revenue by selling the stored power; and installing a propulsion control system on the Broad Street Line.

DART to open 2 airport lines

Route 500 from the Belt Line Station on the Orange Line to Terminal A at DFW is a preview of the direct light rail connection customers will enjoy in December 2014. Meanwhile, the new Route 524 will begin connecting customers arriving on board either the Green or Orange Lines at Inwood/Love Field Station with access to Dallas Love Field Airport.

New Calif. BRT shelter opens

In partnership with the Monterey Jazz Festival, the new Sand City Station and 24 new bus shelters along the route will allow waiting passengers to download jazz concert recordings from past festival performances.

Chicago RTA launches goroo app

Includes the same features that travelers in the region have been using on the goroo desktop site, such as trip directions using transit, driving, walking, biking or any combination; weather forecasts; real-time arrival estimates; and information on major destinations and attractions in the region.

INIT opens Singapore office

Will serve as the group’s headquarters for the Asia-Pacific area giving the company the ability to focus on the specific needs of the public transport industry in the region.

S.F. Muni driver honored for courage

Alan Yam kept calm and brought his eight passengers to safety while his vehicle was attacked and burned by a mob after the San Francisco Giants won the World Series. The agency held a ceremony to honor Yam and a bystander who tried to prevent the crowd from vandalizing the bus.
