Conn. BRT project awarded $275M

FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff signed the full-funding grant agreement during a ceremony at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The grant clears the way for the Connecticut DOT to begin construction of the bus rapid transit system and covers about half the total cost of the $567 million project.

House, Senate passes transportation appropriations

The Conference Committee approved the bill by a vote of 38-1. The House passed the bill 298-121, while the Senate approved it with a vote of 70-30. The bill now heads to the President, who is expected to sign it, thereby completing work on the FY 2012 budget for the Department of Transportation.

Ottawa transit apologizes to abandoned riders

OC Transpo officials are looking into an incident in which a bus driver allegedly walked off the job after a passenger asked why the bus was frequently late. The rider claimed that the driver stranded him and 15 other riders on an idling bus.

D.C. Metro police adopts new crime-fighting tactics

Team using techniques such as decoy bicycles to further reduce crime in the Metro system. Since the team began their efforts about a month ago, it has made dozens of arrests, stopping would-be bicycle thieves and robbery suspects trying to escape with victims’ electronic devices such as iPhones or cash.
