A series of armed robberies on campus spurred the university to plan a pilot program to make its nighttime shuttle service available to all community members with a Brown ID. The service is currently only available to students living off-campus.
The DoubleMap tracking service, which provides a web application for public transit users, was installed on all four of the campus shuttles.
The one-year pilot program is being funded by student activity fees and funds from Student Development/Athletics. Continuation of the program will be contingent upon the availability of ongoing funding.
Cal State University, San Bernardino participated in the Go Smart pilot program in 2011-12. During that year, more than 194,000 bus trips were tallied by more than 3,000 students who used the program, which represented about 17% of enrollment.
The company will operate four buses, which will transport Chapman University students, faculty and staff throughout the campus.
