From zero miles of rail in 1990 to 87 miles today and with five major rail lines under construction, including two more set to open next year that will add 17.6 more miles, modern Metro Rail is an amazing accomplishment.
On July 13, 2015, Metro celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Metro Rail system with a re-creation of the opening of the Metro Blue Line in 1990. During the event, a Metro Blue train appeared from the 7th St./Metro Center Station tunnel through a veil of smoke to break through a banner as it did in the 1990 event. More information on the 25th anniversary can be found by visiting http://www.metro.net/25. Published on Jul 13, 2015
