USHSR names award winners

Private Fla. rail project set for 2015

Florida East Coast Industries, a railroad and real estate company, plans to build and operate All Aboard Florida, a new passenger rail service that will run from Miami to Orlando. The project will cost approximately $1 billion.

Texas’ The T seeks $100M for railcars

Asking member cities of the Regional Transportation Council for the funds to buy up to nine sets of commuter railcars for a commuter rail line from Fort Worth to the Dallas Fort Worth Airport.

Amtrak to connect Va. to D.C.

Now offering service between Norfolk and Washington, D.C. This is the first time passenger rail service has been offered in south Hampton Roads since 1977.

MBCR Chair: Rail infrastructure work needed

System needs state tax investments in bridge work, signals, new train engines and other improvements. Bridge work would improve on-time performance. Train engines initially scheduled for replacement in 2004 were delayed until 2013.

Boston to Cape Cod rail service to be reinstated

The service will be available in 2013 after being shut down two decades ago. Currently, the only mass transit option between Boston and Cape Cod is buses.

Calif.'s SMART seeks $6.6M for train cars

If the additional cars are ordered by the end of the year, they can be purchased at the current price. However, bicycle advocates have criticized the plan because it would take away funds from other projects like bike lanes and sidewalk improvements.
