Amtrak to add vehicles, enhance services

Key actions planned in the new year are building the first units of 70 new electric locomotives and 130 new single-level long-distance cars, the national roll-out of eTicketing to all trains, and the further integration and advancement of Northeast Corridor planning efforts to improve the existing corridor and develop a high-capacity, next-generation high-speed rail system.

Safe transit systems are the reflection of how well safety has been ingrained into the fabric of systems and multiple sub-systems. When transit systems are not properly aligned, these systems and sub-systems will reach their safety limits, which may lead to catastrophic events.

Alstom wins London contract

The new fleet will proceed from the conversion of existing Alstom-built fleets based on the Alstom Coradia platform. It will enable around 8,000 extra peak-time passengers to travel into London's Waterloo station every morning, as eight-car trains will be lengthened to run in 10-car formation on certain routes.
