FTA suspends Miami-Dade funds access

The Administration raised concerns about how the transit agency is spending and accounting for funds drawn from a pool of approximately $182 million in grant money. Miami-Dade Transit Director Harpal Kapoor says the agency is addressing financial control issues and taking corrective action.

The $3 million station, opened on the Blue Line in Gresham, was funded with $1.2 million from the Federal Transit Administration and $1.8 million from Oregon Metro. Plans for the station had been in the works since 1997 as the Gresham Civic Neighborhood developed.

D.C. Metro to replace track circuits

The agency will invest $10 million in beginning to replace approximately 400 Red Line track circuits, enabling it to run its trains in automatic mode. All 1,730 track circuits are slated for eventual replacement, at an estimated cost of $60.5 million.

Among the administration's responsibilities is overseeing the implementation of civil rights laws and regulations in the nation's transit agencies. These laws include Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.

APTA: Commuter benefit cut burdens middle class

A demographic survey of riders shows that 70 percent of those who rely on public transit have household incomes ranging from $15,000 to $99,000 a year. William Millar, president, calls for public transit riders to tell Congress to support the commuter transit benefit in any tax proposal passed before the end of the year.
