Metro-North goes high-tech to examine catenaries

Multi-functional process will use sensors, including a camera that will photograph every inch of the New Haven catenary system and transfer those images to a computer that will determine the height, stagger (horizontal deviation of the wire from centerline of the track below it) and contact wear on the underside of the catenary wires to determine any present or potential problems.

Washington Metro debuts new Website

A new feature on the home page is a rotating headline and eye-catching graphic at the center of the page that highlights important topics of the day. Rail system information also has been enhanced to provide more immediate rider information and more interactivity.

S.F. subway project receives final clearance

The $1.3 billion Central Subway project has been favorably evaluated by the FTA as a "New Starts" project and is receiving federal funding from Congress. Construction is expected to begin in 2010, with service to the public starting in 2016.

Previous EXPO themes of security took a back seat to issues such as fuel prices and global warming. Major evidence of this shift was the dominant presence of hybrid vehicles on the show floor, as well as other eco-friendly product offerings. Off the show floor, session topics focused on dealing with rising operational costs, federal reauthorization, public-private partnerships, customer service and sustainability.
