L.A. Metro, S.F. Muni win APTA awards

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) won the Rail Transit Team Achievement Award at the 16th Annual American Public Transportation Association (APTA) International Rail Rodeo, held in conjunction with the 2008 APTA Rail Conference in San Francisco. First place in the Operators Competition went to San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (S.F. MUNI.)

Siemens wins Scotland rail order

Siemens, as part of a consortium led by the construction company Bilfinger Berger, has been awarded an order to build an 11.8-mile light rail line in Edinburgh, Scotland, as a turnkey project worth over $1 billion.

Siemens wins UTA order

Siemens Transportation Systems Inc.(STS) received a notice to proceed from the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to build and deliver 77 S70 light rail vehicles over a four-year period. This is UTA’s fourth order with STS, bringing its total number of Siemens vehicles to 117.

CATS to add light rail vehicles

The Charlotte, N.C. City Council voted to exercise the final remaining contract option with Siemens Transportation Systems to purchase four additional light rail vehicles for Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS).

MBTA to add bike racks

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will install approximately 1,000 more bike racks at stations throughout its system and announce its second commuter rail bike coach during Bay State Bike Week.
