The bus from Georgia was carrying roughly 34 adults and children when it ran a flashing red light before hitting the tractor trailer, then spun around and hit the semi again. The driver of the truck died as a result of his injuries.
The system incorporates an audible warning message as well as flashing LED strobe lights on the bus that are automatically activated by the operator’s turn signal and by proximity sensors adjacent to the vehicle’s steering gear.
A study of a full-scale system connecting the two capitals would save three hours compared to flying or an overnight ferry. The value of time saved by the network is estimated to be $355 million per year.
