If a phone is lost, stolen, damaged or replaced, user’s account information can be used to restore any tickets that were lost.
The Ventra Mobile App provides one-stop convenience for transit riders who travel on CTA’s “L” trains or buses, Pace buses or Metra commuter trains – enabling the transit rider to plan, manage and pay for their journeys.
Ventra supports both account-based processing through an agency-issued smart card, as well as open payment which enables customers to “pay as you go” with bank cards they already have or through mobile payment platforms including Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay.
Trends include the shift to open payments and account-based solutions, tapping mobile applications and integrating equipment, and software to enhance customer service offerings.
The milestone was reached exactly two months after the app was launched by Metra, the Chicago Transit Authority and Pace.
The app is the first of its kind to allow customers to pay for rides on all three transit systems — CTA, Metra and Pace — from their mobile devices, transforming the way people across Chicago take transit each day.
The agencies and Cubic Transportation Systems have made several improvements to the system, from software upgrades to improvements to the Ventra call center.
They were buying CTA’s magnetic stripe cards, which don’t cost anything, and all the money spent on them went toward fares. However, the Ventra smart card costs $5.00, and to get reimbursed with transit credits, users must provide a permanent address, which poses a challenge for many social service clients.
Include adding easy-to-understand graphic decals to every rail turnstile and bus Ventra reader to identify the optimal location for card placement.
The event was attended by SGA members as well as members of the universities’ administration and representatives from the Chicago Transit Authority.
