The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in North America, carrying more than 200,000 customers each weekday, and last year in conjunction with the opening of Grand Central Madison and Main Line Third Track, it operated more than 77,000 more trains than it did the prior year, a service increase of 41%.
The approved spending plan advances the CTA’s “Meeting the Moment: Transforming CTA’s Post-Pandemic Future” Action Plan, a multifaceted investment plan that focuses on responding to customers’ concerns.
Additionally, the team has partnered with operator of the Seattle Monorail to make capital improvements to the system.
Projects underway include improving real-time arrival information for subway, bus, and commuter rail trains.
The new appointments could play a major role in shaping NFTA’s future, which includes a possible $1.6 billion light rail expansion.
Vince Harris will be responsible for the SFMTA’s $3 billion Capital Improvement Program, including new light rail extensions, facility upgrades and enhancements and system overhead wire and rail replacement projects, reporting directly to Director of Transportation Edward D. Reiskin.
Some 40% of the LIRR's daily ridership passes along this critical stretch of track called the Main Line, a place where trains from five branches of the LIRR converge every day.
